The Char Dham Yatra is a revered Hindu pilgrimage in Uttarakhand, covering four sacred shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Every year, thousands of devotees undertake the Char Dham Yatra to seek spiritual blessings and salvation.
Route & Travel
The Char Dham Yatra typically begins from Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun, covering the following temples in order:
Yamunotri – The first stop, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, requires a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti.
Gangotri – The sacred source of the Ganges River, easily accessible by road.
Kedarnath – One of Lord Shiva’s 12 Jyotirlingas, requiring a 16 km trek from Gaurikund or a helicopter ride.
Badrinath – A temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, easily reached by road.
Best Time to Visit
The Char Dham Yatra is best undertaken between May to June and September to October, avoiding the monsoon season (July-August) due to landslides and roadblocks. The journey offers breathtaking Himalayan views along with immense spiritual significance.
