This Leh–Zanskar–Sarchu tour is not a regular Ladakh holiday. It is a slow and deliberate journey through some of the most remote landscapes in the Indian Himalayas. A route that moves beyond the popular valleys and into places where roads feel recent, villages feel timeless, and silence feels earned.

Itinerary

Day 1: Mumbai to Chandigarh (Train Journey)

  • 11:00 AM- Meet and greet your fellow travellers at Bandra Terminus Railway Station and proceed your journey towards Chandigarh via Paschim Express/
  • Chandigarh Super Fast Exp.
    Spend your day in the train bonding and breaking ice with your fellow travellers. Overnight in the train.

Day 2: Arrival Chandigarh | Chandigarh to Manali

  • Reach Chandigarh Railway Station by 3:30 PM.
  • Leave for our further journey towards Manali, take a halt for dinner.
  • Reach Manali at night, and just in time to crash and recharge for the mountain days ahead.

Day 3: Manali to Jispa | Sissu sightseeing

  • Leave Manali and drive through the Atal Tunnel to reach Sissu, a beautiful village in Lahaul.
  • Stop here for sightseeing- visit the Sissu Waterfall, enjoy riverside views, and explore the local area.
  • After the break, continue your journey to Jispa, a peaceful mountain village. Reach by evening and rest for the night. Overnight in Jispa.

Day 4: Jispa to Padum via Shinkula Pass

  • Embark on a long yet scenic drive from Jispa to Padum, crossing the dramatic Shinkula Pass (16,580 ft).
  • Expect rugged roads, shifting landscapes, and surreal high-altitude views as you enter the isolated beauty of Zanskar.
  • Reach Padum by evening, and we visit the charming Sheela Waterfall, tucked away in a nearby village.
  • Later settle in for the night. Overnight Padum.

Day 5: Day excursion to Pensi La & Drang Drung Glacier

  • Set out from Padum for a breathtaking day trip to Pensi La (14,436 ft)
  • En route, pause at the iconic Drang Drung Glacier Viewpoint to witness one of Ladakh’s largest glaciers.
  • Soak in the prettiest views from Stat Tso and Lang Tso- the twin lakes at Pensi La Pass.
  • On our return to Padum, visit the serene Sani Lake- the perfect place to wind down the day. Dinner and overnight at Padum.

Day 6: Karsha Monastery & day trip to Zangla

  • We start our day with a peaceful sunrise visit to Karsha Monastery, the largest and most significant gompa in Zanskar.
  • After soaking in the morning chants and panoramic views, begin your drive towards Zangla, a quiet village steeped in royal and monastic history.
  • Visit the Zangla nunnery and connect with the nuns and their lifestyle there. Overnight in Padum.

Day 7: Padum to Gonbo Rangjon

  • Leave Padum in the morning and drive through beautiful, remote landscapes to reach Gonbo Rangjon, a sacred and stunning mountain.
  • On the way, visit the famous Phuktal Monastery, built into a cliffside like a hidden cave- one of the most beautiful and peaceful monasteries in Zanskar.
  • You'll reach by late afternoon and check into one of the camps already set up there.
  • Spend the evening relaxing, and at night, experience stargazing- with the mighty Gonbo Rangjon right in front of you. Overnight in camps at Gonbo.

Day 8: Gonbo Rangjon to Manali

  • Wake up to the peaceful views of Gonbo Rangjon and start your return journey to Manali.
  • It's a long but scenic drive through mountains, rivers, and high passes.
  • Reach Manali by evening and check into your stay- then you are free to explore mall road, party or just rest by yourself! Overnight in Manali (Dinner on Own).

Day 9 Manali to Ambala | Departure

  • Leave Manali in the morning and drive down to Ambala. Enjoy the changing views as you descend from the mountains to the plains.
  • Reach Ambala in time, have dinner and board the Golden Temple Express / 12450 Goa Sampark from Ambala/ Chandigarh for our onward journey. Rest and relax in the train after a memorable trip through Zanskar.

Day 10 Arrival: Mumbai

  • 10:45-11:30 PM- Reach Borivali / Mumbai Central OR
  • 11pm-12:30am - Vasai / Panvel
  • With unforgettable memories of Trekkers Tribe, promising of staying in touch and planning to go for more trips together :p

What is included in the tour

  • Train Fare- (Mumbai to Ambala to Mumbai) (Confirm/ RAC please refer to the notes section)
  • Transportation- All intercity and local transportation as per itinerary by Tempo Traveller/ Innova depending upon group size.
  • 7 Nights’ Accommodation in Cozy & Rustic Hotels/ Homestays/ Camps on Sharing basis.
  • Vegetarian and Jain Meals as per mentioned in the itinerary. (7 Breakfasts & 6 Dinners).
  • Mineral Water during road journeys. All Necessary Permits & Entry Fees. First Aid kit and medical assistance.
  • Experienced Bhatakna Trip Captain(s) to assist you with best service throughout the trip.

What is NOT included in the tour

  • Train Meals.
  • Lunch or any other meals not mentioned. (We will explore local cuisines on the way for lunch & one can expect Rs 100-150/- per meal)
  • Cafe meals budget can go till Rs 300-350 per meal.
  • Rafting, Paragliding, Camera, Movie camera and Vehicle Charges where company’s vehicle not available are not included in the tour cost.
  • Any Personal expenses, extra food & drinks ordered, Tips, Laundry, Shopping, etc.
  • Anything not mentioned above in the Inclusions.
Additional Information
  • Early check-in is subject to availability.
  • Company's vehicle will only be accessible till parking areas.
  • The schedule can be changed on the spot by the manager according to the circumstances and convenience.
  • Any cost arising out of any event beyond our control like strike, bandh, riots, flight cancellations, mechanical breakdown, natural calamity like heavy rainfall, landslides, snowfall, earthquake will be directly borne by the guests.
  • Bhatakna won't be responsible in case any sightseeing/ activity gets cancelled due to any natural calamities or man- made incidents.
  • Do NOT carry Suitcases or heavy luggage, a good Backpack is recommended and would be comfortable to carry.
  • Guests would be responsible for safety of their luggage/ baggage throughout the trip.
  • It's a bagpacking trip and not a luxury trip, and this is how we will be able to fully taste the culture and enjoy to the fullest.
  • We haven’t included Lunch since most of the time we will be out exploring the places at Lunch time, but you will have plenty of options to explore local cuisines in Local eateries, dhabbas, cafes, etc. One can expect a budget of around Rs 100-150/- per meal.
  • There will be no room service, luxury hotels, room heaters, etc services. This backpacking trip is planned to experience the local & feel the Himalayas to the fullest.
  • Paragliding will cost you Rs. 3000/- person with GoPro Video. It's a request to inform us and book your slot in advance and bring extra cash accordingly.
  • River Rafting Charges will be around Rs. 1200 - 1300/- per person.
  • Train ticket bookings usually starts from 2 Months before the departure dates, so there are chances the tickets will be in RAC/Waiting if you book the tour late. Please check the ticket status with us at the time of booking, you might have to pay a bit extra to get a confirm seats according to the availability, if the tickets aren’t available.
