Overview

Rajgad trek is the most beautiful trek in Maharashtra. As the name suggests it is the king of forts. Because of the rich history and the mesmerizing architecture of the fort, it stands out among other forts in western ghats

Raigad is a hill fort in the Indian state of Maharashtra that is situated in the city of Mahad. Historically known as Rairee or Rairy fort, it is one of the Deccan Plateau's strongest fortresses. Raigad was one of the many buildings and constructions that the Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his top engineer Hiroji Indulkar developed and constructed. Raigad became the capital of Shivaji Maharaj's Hindavi Swaraj in 1674, following his coronation as ruler of the Maratha Kingdom of the Konkan. The fort provides views of the surroundings and is situated in the Sahyadri mountain range at an elevation of 1,356 meters (4,449 feet) above sea level and 820 meters (2,700 feet) above its base. To reach the fort, you have to climb about 1,737 stairs. It is 750 meters (2,460 feet) long and 400 meters (1,300 feet) high.
