History of Harishchandragad

Harishchandragad has a rich historical and cultural heritage. The intricate carvings found in the Harishchandreshwar Temple, Kedareshwar Cave, and Nageshwar Temple in Khireshwar indicate that the fort belonged to the medieval period and was associated with Shaiva, Shakta, and Nath traditions.

Later, the fort came under Mughal rule before being captured by the Marathas in 1747, making it an important chapter in Maharashtra's history.
